❊ The advice that sounds right but lands wrong

Hey there, Reader,

If you don’t like something, change it.

You’ve heard it. Maybe you’ve said it.

And if you’ve ever received it while you were already stretched thin, already doing your best, you know what it actually feels like.

A wall.

The advice isn’t wrong. It just skips the part where belief has to change before behavior can.

Here’s what nobody names.

Between “I don’t like this” and “I’m changing it” is a belief. Specifically, the belief that change is even available to you.

Most women I work with aren’t stuck because they lack motivation. They’re stuck because they absorbed a story: their environment is something that happens to them. Not something they can shape.

And that story didn’t come from nowhere. It came from decades of being rewarded for adapting instead of deciding.

Before any change lands, that belief has to be examined.

The harder thing to admit is that sometimes we don’t change something because part of us doesn’t want to.

This is not laziness. It's a values conflict.

Think about it, the thing that’s draining you is also producing something you need. Security. Control. Familiarity.

Until you name what you’d be giving up, the pattern stays.

Here’s the invitation & the reframe. A different starting point.

Instead of: change what you don’t like. Try: what would it feel like to move toward something you actually want?

One is about fixing. The other is about choosing.

Start smaller than you think.

A client of mine changed her route to work. That sounds small. It was small. It was also the moment she decided she could choose differently. Her body felt that.

That moment of deciding is the most underestimated part of any change process. The mind and body connecting around something new. It’s not a shortcut. It’s where change actually begins.

Notice what isn’t serving you. Choose differently. Let your body register the decision.

That’s not a workaround. That’s the work.

Hey Reader, quick question: What’s the one thing in December that drains you the fastest, the thing you wish you could step back from, even briefly, so you could breathe again? If your shoulders dropped or you exhaled when you thought of it… that matters. I hear this all month from moms who say: “I’m holding it all together, but I feel lost inside.” And when we sit with that for a moment, something softer usually rises to the surface: “I know I need to feel more tuned in to myself and my...
